Christmas lights in downtown Athens

The hustle and bustle of the holiday season is upon us but before you take your last final and head home for the long holiday break, take a moment to enjoy the holiday season in the Classic City!

Lights! The twinkle lights are up in downtown and they are gorgeous. Meet up with some of your friends for dinner at a favorite downtown spot and take in the atmosphere – it is sure to get you in the spirit! Also, be sure to take a drive through a choreographed fantasy of color and light design at Athens Holiday Lights, at Sandy Creek Park, Thanksgiving through New Years’.

Shop! There are no better gifts for friends and family than something from Athens. Shop in downtown Athens’ chic boutiques and eclectic galleries. Then, take five in Five Points and find fabulous gifts, holiday fashions, handmade jewelry, original artwork, vintage antiques, and local pottery. And don’t forget the plethora of UGA gifts that can be found at any one of the bookstores. Check out the Lyndon House Arts Center too for their holiday market that runs now through January 2.

Music! Known for its music, Athens really puts on a show during the holidays. The Athens Symphony performs December 12 and 13 at The Classic Center and all of your favorite venues are hosting holiday performances as well. Be sure to check out the Rialto Room at the new Indigo Hotel as well as the Melting Point at the Foundry Park Inn for showtimes.

Dawgs! The holidays are no time to forget about your favorite team! Men’s and Women’s basketball have several home games during December so be sure to check out tip off times at georgiadogs.com. And football is not over yet! The Dawgs take on Texas A&M on December 29 in Shreveport, Louisiana for the Independence Bowl.

Most importantly, enjoy the holidays. Spend time with your loved ones, enjoy wonderful homemade food and get some rest before it’s time to gear up for the spring semester at UGA. Before you know it, you’ll be back at your Athens, Georgia apartment! Happy holidays from Whistlebury Properties – we look forward to seeing you in 2010!
