It’s a new year – new semester, new classes, new outlook! Be sure to start of 2010 on the right foot. Here are some new year’s resolutions just for college students to ensure the first year of the new decade is a success:
Get Healthy
Without putting a lot restrictions or tough weight loss goals on yourself, decide to make some healthy choices that will boost your overall nutrition, fitness and diet. Add more fruits and vegetables to your diet, look for exercise opportunities each day and get plenty of rest. Small steps such as these can help you develop healthy habits that will lead to an improved diet and weight.
Manage Stress
Look for fun ways to help you unwind and destress. Consider a new form of exercise (kickboxing, racketball, pilates, etc.) or outdoor activities (jogging, biking, group sports like kickboxing, softball, etc.) that is fun, active and will help take your mind off of stress.
Get Organized
Spend a few minutes each day picking up your room, cleaning up the kitchen, and organizing around your college apartment. Just a few minutes each day will help keep things from piling up and creating a big mess that would require a lot of time to clean up. Consider making this a ritual with your roommates that can be fun and effective.
Go Green in 2010
Look for ways to be more environmentally friendly in the new year. Not yet recycling? Visit ACC Recycle to find out how, as a college student, you can do your part to help the local environment in Athens.
<Don’t Procrastinate
Get started on some of your long term goals. Start thinking about graduation and what you plan to do after college life. With a tough job market and questionable economic conditions, it may be a good time to consider your options – research the Peace Corps, military opportunities, or mission work or look for internship opportunities that could help kickstart your career.
Learn Something New
Even with the time constraints of college classes, decide to learn something new in 2010. It could be cooking, knitting, playing the piano, or another fun skill. Or, consider tying it into your curriculum with learning a new language, or technical skill.
Smile!
As simple as this sounds, it can really affect your overall outlook and mood.
Make the most of 2010 and enjoy your college years because like everyone says they will fly by.
