UGA Spring Sports

Spring may be a few weeks away yet but spring sports at UGA are already well underway. And, the natatorium, tennis courts and golf course are not far from your Whistlebury, Whistlebury Walk or Waterford Place Apartments.
UGA’s swimming and diving teams are among the best in the nation. The women have won six SEC titles and four national titles, while the men have won three SEC championships and two two SEC Coach of the Year honors. Check out the swimming and diving schedule. In fact, UGA will be hosting the 2010 Southeastern Conference Championships Feb. 17-20 at Gabrielsen Natatorium located at the Ramsey Center – cheer on the dawgs to another conference win here at home!
Another successful spring sport that excels at UGA is men’s and women’s tennis. Coming off of three SEC titles, the Georgia women’s tennis team is looking for another successful season. They have one of the country’s top players, Chelsey Gullickson who was named the ITA National Rookie Player of the Year as a freshman last year and finished with a final national ranking of No. 6 in singles and No. 7 in doubles with Nadja Gilchrist.
UGA men’s tennis is perhaps the best program in the country – consistently finishing in the top ten and holding 32 SEC titles, six national titles and two national indoor titles. The men’s team has only had two head coaches in program history – the legendary Dan Magill and Manuel Diaz.
The Dan Magill Tennis Complex at UGA will serve as the host for the 2010 NCAA Championships May 20-31.
UGA Golf is also wildly successful and fun to watch. UGA has a great course and is in fact the site of the 2010 Stadion Athens Classic April 29-May 2. Check out the men’s and women’s schedules.
Of course, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and gymnastics are in season as well so be sure to show your spirit by supporting UGA athletics throughout the spring semester.
