AthFest 2010: June 23-27 in downtown Athens

School is out and traffic is almost non-existent. While many UGA students return home for the summer, those that stay can enjoy all that summer in Athens has to offer. The highlight just might be AthFest and this year includes an all-star lineup.

2010 performers include Kinchafoonee Cowboys, Bubba Sparxx, Perpetual Groove, Modern Skirts, Packway Handle Band, Driveby Truckers and more. Two main outdoor stages plus live performances in clubs all over town ensure a weekend filled with unique performances.

AthFest, Inc. is a 501©(3) non-profit organization dedicated to music and arts education. Proceeds from events such as AthFest and the Athens, GA Half-Marathon support year-round educational efforts in local schools. This year’s event will be held June 23-27 in downtown Athens.

AthFest also includes activities for children such as games and crafts, petting zoo, moonwalks and more. You will also find an open air artists market, an integral part of the overall event. Booths will feature fine arts and crafts for sale. Exhibited work can include ceramics, drawings and watercolor, folk art, furniture, glasswork, handmade instruments, jewelry, mixed media, painting, photography, prints, stoneware, woodwork, or sculpture.

AthFest has won numerous awards including Top 20 Events for June by the Southeast Tourism Society, one of the best festivals of the year by readers of ConventionSouth magazine, and “Festival or Event of the Year” for the state by the Georgia Convention and Visitors Bureau in 1998.
